I am having trouble with my cruise control switching itself off after a short period. Fisrt use for the day is fine but further applications are unpredictable.

I have some advice that if I take out the ECM fuse for 30 sec or so then replace it this will rest the CPU and maybe fix the problem.

Do I do this while the vehicle ignition is switched on/off?

Is the fuse next to the steering colum and if so what does it look like?

The vehicle is a 98 6.5TD Suburban.

Any idea's would be appreciated.

Cheers

Could your brake switch be operating intermittently? That will turn the cruise off. They have been known to go bad from time to time.

Also, a trailer wiring connector full of dirt, moisture, and corrosion can cause this.

FSD problems can also cause the cruise to disconnect. If you can get a scan tool, look at solenoid closure time while it's acting up. If the time is erratic, the cruise will kick out.

That's food for thought, my gut feeling was that it may be something to do with the brake swith or similar. I will start there and work my way along.

I don't have a scan tool or access to one. Would this item be a generic GM tool or is it specifically for the 6.5?

Thanks for the starting point.
