Hello,

I'm about to do a MAJOR overhaul the coolant system on my G30 van. What temperature designation do i get?? Robertshaw t-stats have been recommended. Do I REALLY need a Robershaw? Are there any alternatives? How do i figure out whether i need a spring loaded bypass type? thanks!

You're in New Orleans, I'd go with the RS 180.

Yes, you really really do need the robershaw stat. The other "Stant-like" in appearance (your typical stat) don't balance the cooling system properly, leading to wild fluctuations on the gauge, being un-stable.

I'm running a RS 180 in my 6.2 burb that probably needs the radiator rodded, no cooling problems what-so-ever. Cooling system will be rodded this summer...

Here in Missouri I run a 180 in the summer and 190 in the winter. If I leave the 180 in during cold weather, it seems to slowly reach operating temps and then cool back down slightly. The 190 gets the engine up to temp quickly and holds it there. I like the 180 when I'm pulling heavy loads, though!
