Just wondered what you guys all thought about the new for '08 F-150 Diesel?
It is a 3.6 liter TD from the Landcruiser that is rated for around 420 torque and 267 hp. I think that this is something that GM should follow and maybe take one step further with a heavy duty Avalanche/Colorado offered with upgraded suspension/towing and a smaller 4 clyinder diesel. Whaddya think?

Have only heard rumors of the F-150, but would sure be interested in a Chevy version.

Can't imagine they'd have a hard time selling lots of 'em...

It sure does make sense. A lot of people want a smaller sized truck. As soon as you downsize to a half-ton or smaller, there is substantial less power and towing capability. I'm sure that Isuzu could be contracted to make a small diesel.
As for info, just google 2008 F-150 Diesel

There are plenty of engine options available already for all the manufacturers. They have Diesels outside North America now. The hurdles are the EPA and marketing. GM has a mini-Duramax (among others), but getting it to the showroom floor is another issue. DC has a couple Diesel options due out next year, but may get scrubbed if marketing projections don't make muster. Ford and GM's are in the same boat. Right now, it's only talk. If market projections don't add up, it will remain only talk. Just like the Duramax Burbs that have been promised in 2 years, since the first Duramax hit the road. They are always coming in 2 years.

A manufacturer promising a "better product" just around the corner would be marketing suicide. It will effect immediate sales, which is their bottom line. If a person wants a specific product and believes they can buy it in 1 or 2 years, they won't buy now.

If people would be satisfied with lower power levels I don't see why we couldn't have 1/2-ton diesels that get 30mpg. A 3.5l-4.0l I5, I6, or V6 with up to 175hp/300lb-ft should do it easily. A compact truck with a 125hp/250lb-ft I4 in the 2.0-2.5l range should be capable of close to 40mpg.

That would be Land Rover - not Land Cruiser. :)

Ford owns Rover, but I am not aware of a Ford / Toyota link.
