On second Duramax diesel truck. First was an 01 that had new injectors when i bought it. Now i have an 04 GMC that has 3 bad injectors. Dealer said $2000 will fix it. Just going to replace the injectors that are bad. Have been searching for replacement information. Looks like there is some questions if injectors are covered in the 04. Engine is an LB7. I talked to a friend of mine and he said if he was going into the engine he would replace all injectors. If i am paying out of pocket it looks like i can get aftermarket cheaper than stock. Any ideas on how i should proceed?

Welcome to the Forums!

The 8th digit of the VIN indicates the engine. LB7 (01-04) will be a "1", and LLY (04.5-06) will be a "2". The LLY engines also have the injectors located outside the valve covers, and the valve covers have a relief in them to go around the injectors. The LB7 has the injectors under the valve cover, with the fuel line passing through the cover, like hemi plug wires. Labor for the LB7 injector replacement is quite a bit more extensive because of this.

If your VIN is a "1", you should be covered under the latest bulletin. If it's a "2", you can do them for much less $$. The OEM warranty for any GM Diesel engine is 5 years or 100K miles (after a $100 deductible), and the fuel system is covered.

If you are over the mileage, you will have to find out how well your dealer is willing to work with you. They do have quite a bit of latitude if they go to bat for you.

Thanks. I ahve the LB7 with 122000 miles. What about aftermarket injectors. I have seen some for sale.

There shouldn't be any "aftermarket" injectors. You may find rebuilt or remanufactured, but I'd be suspect of those, depending on the source. Some of our Advertisers (http://www.thedieselpage.com/vendors/main.htm) have reman's, but they are performance injectors.

You may be able to get GM to take care of your injector problem. I don't have the bulletin # on hand, but there was a revised version to include all LB7's for certain conditions. If you have a dealer saying you have several failures, the bulletin could apply. Did they say why they thought the injectors were bad? If it meets the criteria, they will cover it.

I'm having injector problems also!! I have a 2003 duramax, 6.6L. The dealer states the truck warranty in void because the truck came out of Canada.

Does anyone have any info concerning warrenties? My truck had the odometer changed out in Salt Lake City, Utah and I received a certificate verifying the converstion from kilometers to miles. The GMC dealer is stating since the odometer was NOT changed out by a GM dealership they cannot verify the miles thus they cannot change out the injectors under warrenty. They want $3,400 to do the job. I thought all trucks of this type were the same no matter if they were coming from Canada or the US.

Thanks for the help!!

I think you need a new dealer.
