I'm looking at a 1993 donor engine for my 1998 K3500. Here's what I find, any confirmation or forgotten items would be nice:

exhaust - same, should bolt up onto either manifold
mounts - same
transmission - same
turbo - will want to use the later one from the 1998
water pump - replace with new high output
coolant manifold - use the one from the '98
IP - it is electronic on the '93, but is the wiring the same? We'll see...
sensors and plugs - any difference?

160,000 on the engine. New IP at 150,000. I'm going to go listen to it run and take at least driver side compression numbers before swapping...

Thanks

You'll need to swap the aluminum front timing set cover, crank sprocket (with reluctor) and damper from the newer onto the older engine. The front cover on the 1998 has the crank position sensor.

The 1993 engine has the oil pressure sensor located at the rear of the engine, where the 1998 engine has it located farther up in the engine valley. No big, just move it.

The oil cooler lines will give you a headache, the 98 engine has the large oil ports and cooler lines whereas the 93 has the smaller ports and cooler lines, GM does not offer reverse adapters. (older engine into newer vehicle)
If you have the donor vehicle then swap the oil cooler and lines over with the engine.
GM has adapters available to install the large oil port engine into the older vehicle with small oil lines.

gotcha. Cooler is leaking and getting replaced by a lubricationspecialists.com unit. I presume I can get the right connectors from them...

Thanks!
