Does anyone know the stock weight of an 07 2500HD, Duramax, Allison, extended cab, long bed truck? I was going to weigh mine before I installed my tool boxes, cap & loaded my tools but forgot to do it. The loaded weight is 8580 lbs. I just want to know how much weight I am hauling around.

EDMUNDS lists the Curb Weight for the '07 2500HD CLASSIC Ext Cab Long Bed as 5561 lbs, but that's with the 6L gasser and GM auto trans, so you will have to make a slight adjustment for the Duramax/Allison.

Add about 1,000 pounds to that, empty with no fuel. Mine scaled right at 6,400# right off the lot, before fueling and no me. Yours should be within a hundred pounds or so. Edmonds gets their weights from the mfg, which we know to be pretty conservative. 5,561# is probably the listed weight for a stripped reg. cab, which sounds more reasonable to me.

No, they do differentiate in the HD lineup:

The 2 dr reg cab is 5142 lbs

The Ext cab short is 5398 lbs

The Ext cab long is 5561 lbs

The 4 dr crew cab short is 5594 lbs

The 4 dr crew cab long is 5745 lbs

All without the diesel package of course, but the numbers that GM gave them are likely conservatively light.

I checked that later, and you're right. I don't know where they (mfg's or Edmonds) get their numbers, but they are off by quite a bit, compared to the real world. I don't have a problem with it, because CA DMV bases the VLF and weight fees according to the mfg's listed weights. It does give a false estimation of cargo/loading capacities, though. A truck with 500# heavier unladen weight will have 500# reduced cargo/loading capacity.

For a lot of folks (including me), the numbers are important. I don't like loading outside of the legalities. My 5'er is heavy, and very near the legal weight limit of the GVWR and GCWR. If I were to buy a new truck today, I would have to scale it before signing the bottom line.

Light truck marketing these days is a numbers game, both with the load capacities and power ratings. Ford uses these numbers, it seems, as their only selling point. Of course, the mfg's put their best foot forward to get the sales, but that leaves the consumers that intend to use the max capacities at a loss when reality enters the equation.

A consumer (or commercial operator) should not have to wade through the marketing BS just to fit a truck to the job. I know a LOT of RV'ers (and a few commercial haulers) that tow well over the weight limits. Although most of the time they are within what the brochure states the truck is capable of, CHP and DOT don't care what the brochure says. Marketing and reality rarely meet on common ground, with any product.

I weighed my 02 cc. It has a tool box. That may be 300 lbs at the most. With 2 people and 3/4 tank of fuel it weighed 7060 on Flying J's scale.

Mine weighed in at 6820 lbs. Full of fuel and only me aboard. I weigh about 183 lbs. Had the truck weighed at the municipal dump scale.

My 2500HD crew cab shortbox weighed 6550-lbs at a local feed store with a certified scale, and without any accessories or people on-board. Lil Red weighed 4970 on the same scale... ;)

It's kinda strange, if GM was gonna fudge the weight numbers, you would think they would skew them heavier, not lighter, as above a certain GVW level the emission regs are looser, which would raise their CAFE standards up. Seems rather backwards for corporate-think. Unless maybe there is an insurance issue with heavier vehicles ?
