I got a 6.2/sm465 (no overdrive) with 4.56's on 33's. Is it alright for me to be doing highway speeds like 60-65mph which is around 3200rpms. I read somewhere where the stock rev limiter is set way low, and that it can run at 3000-3500rpms all day long. I try to stay around 60mph but it sounds like it is screaming.
The engine will do it BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUT thats reeeeeeeealy pushing the Rpm up there for long term driving.
2200-2400 is far better.
That little creature has definately got to be howling at that rpm

I regularly ran my engine up to the governor (4100rpm in my case) with 33" tires and 4.56 gears and TH400 for many, many miles without problem.
YMMV, but with a good engine, they can easily handle the revs, it's not fuel efficient though, so I installed a TH700R4 to keep the revs down on the freeway, although I still used the full rev range to accelerate.
I'm with Britannic. Running it on the rev limiter is noisy and not fuel efficient, but the engine itself doesn't care. I ran humvees all over Germany at speeds of 60+, no idea what the RPM were but they had 36" tires and 5.24:1 gearing between the ring & pinion and geared hubs. Whatever problems they had weren't the result of high engine RPM.

As the others have said, the engine won't care, but your ears may get tired of the scream, unless you like to listen to Top Fuel Dragsters and Funny Cars as a way to relax. :D

Go find some 35's or 36's to lower the rpms some more. Cheaper than an OD or higher gears.
