View Full Version : Ford Re-calls New '08 6.4L Diesel SD (Already)
Ford has recalled the new '08 6.4L Diesel Super Duty pickup (already). This is due to tailpipe fires in the exhaust system. You would have thought with the disaster they had with the 6.0L that Ford would have got it right this time around!! Oh well,,,
See this link (I am certain there are others).

"The software upgrade will reset the powertrain control module on the Ford trucks. In cases where the system detects unusually high temperatures in the diesel particulate filter, the control module will power down the vehicle.
"The aim is to allow drivers to pull safely to the side of the road to allow it to cool before proceeding, Jarvis said." (emphasis added)
WOW! Imagine pulling a 10,000 lb load in traffic at 70 mph on a hill and have this happen! What are they thinking?

that is why i didn't like any north american product with DPF until they figure it all out. They are still "green" behind their ears and i don't like that regen cycle at all. For what? just wastes fuel. In Europe you can buy DPF's that fit on any Diesel and does not need a regeneration cycle and those guys putting them on older cars and tractor trailer trucks for years. It's a given that most countries in Europe were using way much lower sulphur content in their fuel over 10 years or more.

Amen. I like the effort, but i'm not going to be the first to try out the new DPFs. I wanted an 07, but didn't trust the LMM, nor the LBZ w/ particulate filter.
I settled on an 06 LBZ, and thus far i'm happy with it, more so that I don't have to worry about some stupid DPF maintenance, or in the 08 F**D's Tailpipe Fires... Just Lovely...
I didnt think the 07 LBZ's had the dpf? I had a GM salesman tell me that, unless I misunderstood.
Just got an '07 "Classic" Silverado.
It does not have the particulate filter. The exhaust appears identical to the '05 exhaust.
