Hi I am new to this forum and am looking at a 1993 2500 4X4 Auto.
The truck is a one owner with 250,000km on it. It was well maintained by dealership and has no rust. Is this a good candidate? He is asking $4500.00 for it. I had a 2000 Dodge diesel with an auto and loved the motor but hated the injection system and transmission ($7000,00 in repairs in 2.5 years) So I figure I will try a non computer chev.
Also the owner sed the mileage on the truck has gone from 27mpg imp to 22mpg imp over the life of the vehicle. Is this a sign of worn injectors?

Thanks

I just happen to own a '93 and love it. Most reliable vehicle I have ever owned. Also has proven to be one of the cheapest to maintain. I have a stick shift so there is no electronic anything other than the glow controller. The '93's are supposed to be bulletproof, the best year of the 6.5 engine and one of the best years for the engine block itself. It will have NOWHERE NEAR the power of the Dodge so if you plan on comparable towing it won't do it. It can be made quite a bit stronger with bolt on bits but still won't hold a candle to the Cummins. Mines got 245,000 miles and it makes money for me every day as a work truck. MPG in the 20's is optimistic at best. I get 18-20mpg and thats a stick shift 2WD with 3.42 gears. I am guessing you would see 16-18mpg. RT

Thanks RT. his mileage clames are imperial gallons so would be about 20 greater than US gallons. What year did the 4L80 trans come out?

I owned a 93 and loved it.
I traded it off on a 94 and am still kicking myself.

As was mentioned the 6.5 will not produce quite what a cummins will but dont throw too many rocks at the litttle diesel rat. With a little love thay can do a lot.
The price is not bad as long as the truck is clean and in good shape.

Thank you for the replies. I will be looking at it tomorrow. I am hoping to use this truck for commuting (100km) and pulling my ski boat to the lake so no heavy towing.
About the dodge diesel I had, I will never own another dodge automatic. That thing sucked for towing a 25ft 5th wheel. third geer was to high rpm and overdrive was not enough rpm. Also two injector pumps. I used clean fuel with power survice additive.

Well I bought the truck. I am suprised at how nice it runs with 260,000km on the original injectors.

Welcome aboard and best of luck with your purchase!

I spent quite some time looking for my '93 - I wanted the combination of mechanical injection and the NV4500 five speed and am quite pleased with my purchase.
