I have several 6.2 in various states of disrepair to running and I wanted to rebuils one. I was wondering about the cost, the best parts, and the avalibility of the parts. Any info or comments would be a great help.

Just about any year model 6.2 would be a good foundation to start with.
The old RED blocks have been touted as being better material but I cant say for absolute positive.

The parts are all pretty much interchangable.
Stay away from the old cast rocker arms and use the newer style stamped units. Always replace the plastic guide buttons though.
Check your cam and keep the lifters in order so they go back on the same lobe, or replace them all. If the cam does not show worn or galled lobes I would use it again. ( some shiny wear pattern is normal)

Parts are readily available for these engine and the prices are good too.
If you know what you need and the prices you can fine many reeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaallllly good deals on ebay if you watch.

The cylinder heads need to be checked over well for cracks and should be pressure tested to be sure they dont have any leaks between water and the combustion chamber area.

Sort though your parts and pick a block thats good and a crank that will do with only a cleaning ,mag and a polish.

If you have a block that can go without boring and many can, a set of rings, bearings and such along with a hed job can set you up fairly well.

Fresh set of injectors along with having the IP reworked and a few other goodies should round out the deal.

If you do most of the work yourself and shop aqround for deals on parts you should be able to get it done and ready to go for $1500-$1800 maybe a lot less depending on how well you shop.

recently I purchased a couple sets of top brand name pistons with rings for $150 per set.

The regular wholesale price per piston is about $64 EACH without rings. do the math.

Deals can be had if you look.

Stay away from off brand stuff.

Bearings from several manufactures are all good.
Names like Cleavite, Sealed Power, Federal Mogul just to name a few.

I would refrain from buying at the Chevy store. Good parts but toooooooooooooo much $$$$$$$$$$$

Hope this helps
Have more ???????????? just ask we will help

I have a old red motor, but the injectors are not fine threaded. I was not aware that the construction was diffrent. Did the design of the heads ever change to address the cracks between the valves, and is there anything to be done to avoid cracking?
