Is it possible to test this sensor and if so how can it be done?

It depends on the reason you are asking. The PCM gets its signal from the CPS. If it fails, the PCM will have a fit and tell you so.

If you have a flakey tach, the signal comes from the alternator. If its just inaccurate, the wrong size pulley is the most likely/common suspect.

If you are referring to the '93 mechanical injection pump engine, it only has the alternator input.
