Greetings.
I'm pulling a #6000 boat with my '91 R2500, and the stock/cheap shocks aren't working out. So far it looks like good high performance gas shock options are:
1) Bilstein
2) KYB
3) Edelbrock
I need good control and response, hopefully without riding completely like a brick, but good towing performance is more important than a comfortable ride.
Any suggestions/experiences/recommendations greatly appreciated.

Bilstein. Without a doubt.

Bilstein. Bilstein. Bilstein.
Hey, maybe Bilstein would be a good idea?

I would suggest Bilsteins. Worth every penny!

OK guys, I've bought a set, just need to find the time to put 'em in.
Thanks!
well...how are they?
I'm towing a 4000lb boat and am also looking to take the sponge out of the ride.
Bilsteins get my vote too.
just installed pro comp es9000s on the rear. Fronts are on backorder and I couldn't wait. Will update on these 36 dollar beauties after the test run :D
Installed the front shocks today. wow. what a difference! (of course anything has to be better than the oems with 130k on them) Compression dampening is firm, perfect for my preference. However, I would prefer a little more rebound dampening as my 8700lb tank rolls down the highway. Steering stabilizer and front shock installation was a snap, but pro-comp supplied some pretty crappy adaptor bars for the rear that had to be ground out a touch to fit correctly. The shocks minimized a vibration i have at 35, but didn't cut it out alltogether...still trying to figure that one out.
All in all, I give them an 8.5-9 out of 10!
Anyone else care to sound off on their shocks?
the vibration left with a new set of tires...

Sorry about the waaaay slow response--haven't had time for the board since May(!) between work and a bottomless pit of a boat project.
Bilsteins are excellent, and have made a huge difference, especially in towing my #6000+ boat and trailer.
Now, I just need to find a competent alignment shop that can set my front end up right; the steering (towing or not) is very twitchy on the truck. Thinking a rear sway bar may help too, but I need to figure out what will fit over my Banks exhaust.
