Do I have to do anything differently changing the diesel's oil, as opposed to changing the oil in my gas-powered cars? I figure it's better to ask and get laughed at, than to assume I know what the h##l I'm doing and break my truck!

Same!

Except you'll need 7quarts of oil...

I just buy two gallons 14w40.

FYI so you won't think you have done something wrong it will turn black almost instantly. Its not like a normal gasser where the oil stays clear or amber for 500-1000 miles or so.

The only Dumb question is the one that goes un-asked.

I don't know....My wife asks stupid questions all the time. Sometimes, less is better....

"When did you get that?" "How much did that cost?" "Who's paying for that?"

And the list goes on........

Best is Rotella T 15W/40 at 3K mile intervals. If you're running lotsa miles from start to finish, 5K miles wil be OK.

:)

I have found that with higher mileage 6.5L engines, oil consumption can be reduced with moderate boost levels, combined with synthetic oils. With high boost and non-synthetics, I could not keep Rotella in my engines.
