I just purchased a 1999 Chevrolet Suburban 2500 LS 4X4 with the 6.5TD. I want to add a gage package. On the unit for the transmission I would like to mount the thermocouple in the outflow cooler line to get a better idea of the operating temp. So I want to know if there is a product on the market that will allow me to mount the thermocouple in the outflow transmission cooler line. I also would like to know the best place to mount the boost and exhaust sending units.

Thanks

Thanks JohnC.

I was not clear in the line I was talking about. It is the line that flows from the transmission to the cooler.

Actually, the best place to sample the trans temp is either the line going to the cooler or in the pan. The reason is that the oil is taken from the pan and pumped to the cooler and the trans in parallel. Reading the cooler outlet would be artificially low as it is mixed in the pan before going to work.

The EGT should be sampled somewhere before the turbo inlet. Driver's side crossover pipe is a convenient, popular location.

Manifold pressure can be any convenient place in the wide part of the intake. Avoid anywhere that has an artificially high velocity. I think there's a photo on John Kennedy's web site.

The MagTech tranny pan has a drain port that is right size for temp sender, however CARCODE software and small laptop will tell everything about entire power train real time..............

Boost sensor, center and top of upper intake.

EGT on pass side manifold just before exhaust turbine.

Brass 'T'block from hardware store, with baynonet hose connecters,
Temp sensor into 'T' port,
install in line going into radiator trans temp oil cooler.
will read temps of oil leaving the trans, ( the hot'est oil )
will show 'quick' rise in trans oil temps,

hotter when TC unlocked...

Thanks for the information. This is just the information that I needed.

Insert the temp probe into the 'T' such that no part of the probe blocks the flow thru the line connections

The temp in the line going to the cooler will be the same as the temp in the pan. The fluid on its way to the cooler comes directly from the pan. The hottest fluid is the fluid draining out of the converter, but there's no convenient way to measure it as it's headed to the pan...

I made the assumption that the fluid was coming from the Torque converter,
as the rise in temp is almost immediate when the TC unlocks,
and also drops almost immediately...when TC locked up

If it is the temp of the fluid in the oil pan, whooo, it gets HOT fast...

Note, I also installed a deep alum pan, drops temps about 20-30 degrees
running with TCC locked...

Best way I had to control fluid temps was the TC lock up switch,
( resister to fool the trans into thinking it was overheated )
really worked well in 2nd and 3rd gear hill climbs...
