View Full Version : Transfer case
My Sub has the NVG246 transfer case. My question is: when I"m in 2Hi is my front drive shaft supposed to be turning when I'm moving? Mine does. With vehicle stopped, I can turn the shaft by hand, however it is hard to turn. I had a 94 gasser that when I turned the front shaft it turned a lot easier.

I would say it would spin a little, most likely due to fluid drag, when rolling forward.

The 246 also has an active clutch/syncro (mechanical and viscous). The "auto 4x4" feature makes shaft friction normal. If you can turn it by hand, it's normal.

This t-case has a clutch pack (9 clutches 10 steels) to control tq to frt driveshaft which is adjusted by t-case controller using data from 3 speed sensors and your ABS.
The frt/drive shaft turns when in 2wd while vehicle is in moton.
As for being able to turn frt driveshaft by hand while parked, usually you can't.
