I have a 1995 GMC 3/4 ton 4x4 extended cab short box.
101000 miles on truck.
I just bought the truck, drove it home and put it on jackstands and tore out the drivetrain.
I understand these trucks get pretty good mileage. What's the real world out there getting?
Thanks, Buzz

If it's not driveable, you shouldn't spend much on fuel... :D

Have a look here (http://www.thedieselpage.com/mileage.htm) for more info.

Why? That engine still has more than 50% of its life left.

Well, to tell the truth I bought the truck with a bad transmission.
I couldn't turn down 4000 bucks. The truck is in excellent shape body and interior wise and the motor is excellent.
So, turned drums, getting slotted rotors. New front pads. New u-joints all around, nice shinny rebuilt trans. New shocks (Bilstiens) Calipers, FSD cooler and a 40HP chip. And four inch exhaust (straight through) No cat, no muf.
Hope to have it done this weekend we'll see..........
Thanks for all the replies and the heads up on the MPG links. I hope to get in the hight teens. Nice to get 20. But it's mainly a weekend driver. My Honda Civic gets 40 mpg and I do a hundred miles a day to work and back.
