I know there are different wattage block heaters. What I am considering is an oil pan heater from Kennedy. They use less wattage than a block heater and are non introusive.

We preheat our oil on large turbines before admitting any steam to them. Kennedy's argument for hot oil vice hot coolant makes more sense.

Howdy
I have the factory block heater, an oil pan heater and a on-board battery charger. The oil pan heater is probably the best idea for a stand alone unit as I think it more evenly heats thing up and heat rises. If you heat the oil pan everything is going up. With a block heater much of the heat is lost before the oil is warmed up. I know that when it is -30* outside and I start my truck the oil temp is 75*. Makes me happy!
