So... I was looking at my hour meter this morning, and it said 10.2. That would be fine if my truck didn't have 28,000 miles on it.

The truck was in a few weeks ago to get the extendable mirrors serviced. Could this have happened if they were reprogramming the mirrors?

What are my options?

Go back to the dealer and complain. Not about the hour meter, but the now defunct odometer. Ask, "how in the heck could I get 28000 miles in only 10 hours? You guys need to fix my odo...'bout 500 miles oughta do it."

I dont' have an expanation, but your not alone. Our 2004 Suburban zeroed the hour meter at around 65,000 miles. I don't have the records with me right now but I log hours and miles after every fuel stop. I poked the button and it showed 0.8 hours. I have enetered a fudge factor into my spreadsheet so the average speed to date continues to calculate about 38 MPH, rather than the 81,000 MPH for that fill and 7,000 MPH for the next tank. It hadn't been in for service, had a dead battery, a lightening strike or anything else that I know of, but there is the possibility that a 2 year old girl or a 6 year old boy had something to do with it . . . they like to "drive" almost as much as their dad does. They might have stumbled into some combination of button pushes, key turns and lever pulls (probably while waiting with mom in the car for big brother to finish a music lesson or some such thing) that resulted in a reset, though they hadn't zero'ed the trip meter.

Who knows? Pretty wierd though.
