View Full Version : 6.5 just died and will not run while driving not FSD??
I need some expert help. A little background. I have a 1996 chevy 6.5 suburban with 130,000 miles. I did replace the original FSD with an add on external FSD 4 years ago. The problem!! The other day I was sitting with the a/c on for about 10 minutes. It was warm outside not hot. I then drove off a couple of miles and was crossing a bridge with an slight incline when out of the corner of my eye I saw dark black smoke out the exhaust. I let up on the pedal and the pedal went about half way down to the floor when I pulled it up with my foot. It did it again then the car died. Would not start again. I had it towed to my mechanic who does diesel and he did some checks on it. He found fuel on the low side of the pump but not on the hi side. Today he was doing more checking and he said the FSD started smoking and blew out a fuse. I looked at the FSD and you could see where it got hot and burned. He put on another one and changed the fuse and it still will not run. He thinks the pump is bad. Any ideas??
If the pedal fell to the floor it sounds like the TPS is bad
The TPS is the whole unit that the pedal hangs on. This is what tells the system what to do.
Does it have any stored codes??
lets got from there for now.

Welcome to the 'Page, Bigal..............
Bad load of fuel and water in the fuel will cause black smoke, also, and no-start condition - drain a sample from the water-drain valve attached to the t-stat crossover manifold.
Also check the fuel filter and whatever may be in the cannister, then check the fuel supply system - Lift Pump, 20a LP fuse, Oil Pressure Switch, LP Start Relay, etc - particularly so if you cannot get a supply of fuel from the drain valve.
Too many variables!
Figure out what's going on with the throttle. There's no mechanical connection to the engine, so nothing to "pull" it down.
Next, figure out why the FSD smoked. The fuel solenoid could be bad.
