What year did Chevy start putting the third door on the extended cabs?
Did all of them have it, after that year?

I believe it was available for the 96 model year - in half ton trucks only. In fact, I don't believe it was ever offered in 3/4 tons in the C/K body style (thru 2000 model year). I know it wasn't available on my 98 3/4. I don't think it was standard, just optional.

I believe the 3rd door was availabe on both 1/2 and 3/4 tons with the new body style, starting in 99. I think they made both back doors optional in 2000 (new body style).

Confusing, isn't it?

Hope my memory's correct.

Joe.

Wow, yeh.
I should have known it wouldn't have been cut and dry.
Thanks!

Did any of the 6.5TD trucks have an optional third door?

Not sure. I would think the 1/2 ton 6.5s would have had that option.

I've got a truck brochure (for my 98) - I'll have to check it out.

The 1/2 tons had the 3rd door option starting in M/Y 1996. There was not an option for the 3rd door in the 2500/3500's in the GMT-400. The GMT-800 trucks (99-07) all had the 3rd/4th door option, but none were available with the 6.5L, and no Diesel until M/Y 2001.

I was wrong - I checked both my 96 and 98 new truck brochures. According to those, the 3rd door option was never available with the 6.5. It was only available on 1500 trucks with the 5.0 or 5.7 gas engines.

Another example of weird GM options control.
