:D Just brought it home yesterday:D
I have been trying to get diesel informed by reading the info shared on this forum, and have another question. Does my '07 Chevy Classic have the LBZ or LMM? Doesn't seem to matter now that I got it, but curious just the same. Can't wait to get some miles on it so I can hook up our TT to it and see how much better it tows than my gasser Suburban.
:D

:D :D :D
I just brought it home yesterday, and put 95 miles on it.
How long did you wait before you started towing with it?
Dealer said 500 miles. I have a 33' foot travel trailer that weights just about 7200lbs loaded. I really don't see why I couldn't pull it now.
Any pros/cons to waiting?

Since you have the classic, it is a lbz.

The rear differential is what needs to be broken in. GM recommends changing the rear diff lube after 500 towing miles or 10,000 miles of no-towing. Don't be surprised to find some amount of metal on the magnetic drain plug.

You could tow a 7K trailer for short trips that didn't cause the rear diff to heat to excessive levels. I've seen quite a few brand new trucks tow from the get-go.

Congrats on the new truck! ;)

and gets better fuel mileage (at least for me) too. :) I'm getting 50% better mileage (9.9-10.1 vs 14.7 - 15.0). Both figures are running empty and in mostly city driving. I did take a trip on the highway and didn't do much better.

I agree 100% with what Jim said! the key to getting your new truck tow ready is take a few trips to warm up the the rearend but not over heat things. change the fluid after 300~1000 miles and do it again around 5000 miles. I have been using mobil1 syn gear lube with zero issues. its easy to change , there is a drain and a fill plug so you can do it basicly anywhere . FYI you need 4Qts to fill it.

We are planning a trip to PA in July. But I should hit the 500 miles before then.:D We will be towing our travel trailer when we go to PA.
Should I change the rearend lube before we go? Or wait until the return home?
