Was going through the build codes on my 96 suburban and saw this one. Is this just limited slip?? or something else all together?

This also has the 4:10's in it.

Thanks

What was the code? 1996 didn't have a limited slip option. Locking rear or open only. I'm not familiar with the "axle tracking option". Could it be "wide track" (GTY)?

the option code is R9B

Got me on that one. I'm not finding it. Many, if not most of the RPO codes, are non-descript and part of package options. The only track option I can think of would be for a Chassis/Cab, as compared to a pickup. Even so, I can't find the code. Where/how did you identify it? Now I'm curious.

Well... I was able to get my hands on the print out of the factory service history via the GM vehicle inquiry system (vehicle build). Along with seeing when the three injection pumps were replaced, I also got all the option codes. They all match up with my little sticker in my glove box. Next to the R9B code is the option description, 10.5 inch axle tracking option.

So it appears I have nobody willing to venture a guess as to what the 10.5 inch axle tracking option is??? Option code R9B. This is on a 1996 suburban 2500 with 4:10's.

Any help would be appreciated.

This is kind of weird but the only thing that I am showing for that code,
(R9B) is that it is a designation for Formula Firehawk #16. I did a bunch of checking on this but couldn't find it. It isn't Limited Slip as the code for that is G80 and most diesels were LS equipped.

I don't know if this info helps at all; build date 4/15/1996. It was an order placed at a dealer for a local fire department. It is a SLE 2500 4x4 with 8600 GVW.

I guess I can try a local dealer and see what they can look up in the their data base.

I appreciate the help on this one.

Should be able to take any good GM parts man the VIN and he tell you how the vehicle was ordered. GM keeps better records now than they used to. Before I bought my "new" 96 last year, I took the VIN and was talking to my parts man, who told me color, int, egine, trim level, rear ratio, posi, etc. for a truck 2 states away.

Just a thought

That is exactly how I got the info on the 10.5 inch axle tracking option. I was able to get the print off via the GM websight as to the exact options as ordered originally.

What was printed off for me matched item for item on the glove box sticker.

Still not finding it. The only thing I can think of is possibly an option for railroad and the like, that need wheel tracking for rail driving.

I Thank everybody for the help... I hate to have to do this, but I'm going to a dealer. I figure if the members here don't have the answer, then there is no way the local dealer will. I'm goning to give them a crack at it.

How about a rear anti-sway bar??
