The following is the process I went through to convert a 91 Buick Roadmaster Wagon to the 6.2.

I guess the first question that I should answer is

Thanks Bill!

Would like to see your project, but I recommend using the Photo Album to post pics (click the "Photo Album" link on the blue tool bar above). The 39K only applies to attachments. :)

Quick question. How pray tell do I get the photos to appear in the body of the post and to show the comments? Seems all I get is the links with no comments.

I edited your message to allow the images to show.

You can click the "Photo Post Tutorial" sticky thread here in this forum to learn more about adding images to your messages. :)

The code for getting an image to appear in a posted message should look like the following (without any spaces between characters).

I really enjoy checking out these "outside the box" conversions that people are doing. Dare to be different! and all of that...

So the stock suspension doesn't have a problem with the extra weight?

Jim:

Maybe it my settings, but the only thing that appears now is four boxes with www.The Dieselpage.com on it. Please advise.

Trbankii:

Suprisingly, with the added wieght, the front only dropped about 1/4 inch, and that was with old springs! I will be replacing the springs this year and hopefully that will return the ride hieght. Another plus is that the car rides better even then in it's stock form, which was already smooth. Nothing like cruising down the highway while sitting in your lazyboy. The sway bars are already oversized for the car and have no problem handling the diesel.

Cool conversion!

I know what you mean about using the stock vacuum brakes. I have a reservoir tank with the stock 6.2L vacuum pump, and it works great after you wait the initial 30 seconds or so to build up enough vacuum for the power assist to work. I've been using it that way since 1996. I keep saying that one of these days I'll swap in the hydroboost.....

Is a Suburban too "truck-like" for you? Seems that it would have fit your needs and would have saved you a lot of a trouble. Of course, I guess some would say the same to me. I mean, I converted a truck that I could have very easily purchased outright...... It's just a sickness, I guess! ;)

Casey:

I hear where you are going in regards to the Burby but lets face it, it is basically a pickup with a topper. I spec my vehicles for a daily driver with the ability to tow my trailer. If I do the right job of springing a truck for towing then when I take the trailer off I am stuck with a rolling pogo stick. If I spring it for a daily driver with air assist when I tow then I might just as well drive my Buick. The Roady can still carry as much as a 1/2 ton (yes with the rear seat down a full sheet of plywood still fits with the gate closed), you can't beat the ride on long trips and the mileage makes the whole thing worthwhile. With the trailer out back, it's long wheel base and oversized brakes make it an ideal tow vehicle, especially with the 6.2.

I am not convinced that the hydro-boost is the answer. Maybe its because of the older unit I installed but the feel just isn't right. Had to modify the actuator rod and shim it for the firewall angle. Due to the flange difference I was also forced to replace the master with a pickup master. Any of these mods might have adversely effected the way the brakes work but in honesty I preferred the vacumm system...just didn't trust it. Must do some more testing (might add a PS cooler and play around with the proportioning valve otherwise, if I can be sure of the capacity, I might still go back to the original system.
