How bad is it to not have a working heater in the winter??
I took my filter housing apart, the wires going to the heater are almost broke off, and a new one is $124. Will it hurt this winter, if its not working??

Depends on your local ambients - you'll need it if temps dip below 30deg for any length of time

I was without a heater for 4 NH winters and never had any problems with fuel gelling.

Been running for 6 years now living within 10 miles north or south of I 80 from IL to WY and although I have a heater in a 30 micron Racor filter feeding the lift pump, I have not needed to power it. Been running Stanadyne Performance Blue in all fillups, sometimes fuel is winterized with a #1/#2 mix, but rarely straight #1 and I have not had any problems - temps down to -10F.

On the flip side, I lived in Fargo ND for 5 years running a 6.2 Jimmy and even a winter blend with a fuel system heater (oem) would not prevent a jelled system - temp dropped under -30F. Had to switch to pure #1.
