so i pulled my 6.2 out of my blazer last weekend to do a bit of a cleanup and turbocharge it. i want to keep things very simple when i drop the motor back in and i want to make the glow plugs manually operated with maybe a pushbutton switch.

i'm just wondering if there is any fancy wiring to do, or if its simply just on and off kind of like a light. and perhaps if anyone knows what sort of amperage i should be expecting them to draw so i can wire it appropriately. any advice would be helpful

thanks

Good Day!

You'll need either the factory glow plug relay, or maybe a properly-wired Ford starter relay would work. The GPs draw ~ 150A at power-on, so you're not likely to find a switch to do this directly.

If you know you've got 9G or 11G GPs, don't cycle the GPs more than 9 or 10 seconds - they'll pop like flashbulbs. 60Gs, JK's, & some others can take considerable on-time.

Blessings!
