New member here. Just purchased a 1993 k2500, 6.5td which has an overheating problem. I suspect the problem is a passenger side blown head gasket, due to obvious coolant leaking from the rear of the head. When I pull the heads to replace the gaskets, I would like to replace the precups with earlier "fuel economy" 6.2 style precups. My question is: Where to buy new precups, which style is best for maximum fuel economy?

You can buy new pre-cups from www.peninsulardiesel.com (http://www.peninsulardiesel.com) made for the newest AM General Fuel Mizer engine. You could also acquire a set of used precups from any of the 80's 6.2L cyl heads. New ones aren't cheap, but any pre-cup swap could require machining to get the depth correct in your 6.5 cyl heads (+/- .002"). A good machinist can get them almost perfectly flush.

I searched for months attempting to find good used cups, no luck! Ended up buying new from Penn, at $65 each

They all fit with no decking required, so far so good! Just in case, I squeezed them good with a set of head studs :)
