Crossover tube replacement

Hi all,

A recent TDP article on pyrometer installation suggested replacing the crossover tube with a nice mandrel bent one. Sounds good to me, especially since I'm researching freer flowing exhaust systems. However, after some serious web surfing, I can't find one. Folks have mentioned that Kennedy Diesel sold one, but I don't see it on his site.

Anybody have a source for a mandrel bent crossover tube to easily fit a 6.5L TD?

Figures...found it just after posting. You have to look under 6.2/6.5 rather than 6.2L/6.5L. So, that mystery is solved...

...but are there any other choices out there? I've no complaint with the one I've found, but I'd like to know all my options

They sell them on ebay as well. I got a crossover, and a downpipe there. They've been on the truck for 2 years with no issues, other than more power:D

I put my pre-turbo EGT in the crossover and it works great

Reacts very fast and you don't have to worry about damaging the exhaust manifold. I took a pipe bushing cut it so it was not as long, then drilled a hole in the crossover making room for the flange bolts and welded it in. I would do it again in a heartbeat.

Here is another pic. I put a plug in the bushing while welding to retain shape and keep the threads clean

if you are looking for a complete exhaust then check out www.warpspeedperformance.com -- Dallas is great, their prices are reasonable, and I had very little problems installing their new 2.25" crossover, 3" downpipe and 4" exhaust. It has a nice throaty-sounding tone!

My biggest issue was that I had to have a cat in place since it came that way from the factory, so I had some cutting/welding to do to fit it all together. No big deal though as it all came together.

I highly recommend wrapping the larger down pipe with header wrap, then painting it with VHT (I used silver) -- see my photo album, pg 2 for more pics.

www.ssdieselsupply.com has crossovers and turbo back systems. I haven't decided what to put on my truck yet. I want stacks but my wife says I'm and idiot. I am an idiot... ...who wants stacks:D

The point of wrap is to keep the heat in the exhaust. It also keeps the temp down on other things around the exhaust.:D

On that same thought, I wonder how much engine compartment heat savings could be gained by wrapping the down tube to where the cat is supposed to be? :cool:
