View Full Version : Glow Controller or Batteries ??

I appear to have a problem with the glow controller or my batteries. The glow light will stay on when I turn the key to on. Sometimes it will stay on and/or go off after 20 - 30 secs, sometimes longer, then the truck will not crank over. It acts as if there is a "flat" spot on the starter, but when I disconnect the glow controller the engine cranks over and starts. Also, when the engine does not start, if I hook up a battery charger the truck will crank and start. Starts and cranks fine when warm, this only happens in the morning or when it has been sitting for a long time 4 - 6 hours.

So the question is, are the batteries going bad causing the glow controller to malfunction and stay on, or is the glow controller bad and pulling the batteries down?

Any suggestions on a new controller? Dealer item best or other supplier?

Sure sounds like the controller to me from your description.

Batteries are easily load tested in the truck. I'd do that before bothering to take them out.
