CNY 6.5 mechanic?

I just bought a 1998 chevy 2500 6.5 pickup.Blue smoke at startup,Lots of black with throttle.Very weak power and cannot even hear turbo spool up at all.I was wondering if anybody knows a 6.5 mechanic in Central New York?

Good to have you on board.

Check to make sure the air filter and the snorkel through the fender does not have a critter making a home in there and that the filter is clean.
use a little cheapy hand held vacuum gauge and be sure you have good vacuum at the vacuum pump outlet hose.
Check the hose at the waste gate actuator too. (This is the little can on the lower side of the turbo. Be sure the waste gate linkage will move freely with the engine off.

The vacuum at the wastegate actuator line should be 15" + and steady.
If the vacuum at the pump is not 26" and steady replace the pump.
If you start finding anomalies in the vacuum and the pump is OK then check the plastic lines from the pump to the solenoid(Mounted on the rear of the LH valve cover)

If the lines have cracks OR??? then they need fixing. The little solenoid on the Valve cover can be a source of issues too.

This is an easy thing to check and fix. You just need a good little vacuum gauge and your set.
