I have a 1983 k3500 with the 6.2l. I currently have the SM465 and 4.11 gears in the axles. I would like to put in an overdrive transmission, for better milage and a lower cruising rpm. The NV4500 is a little more than I want to spend. I heard that New Process made a 4 speed with 4th gear being overdrive that was put in chevy trucks at some point. Does anyone know what transmission it is or if its any good?

It's the New Process A833 (or maybe A883.) It's a pretty light duty transmission, I wouldn't use it in a 1-ton unless you never haul or tow. I think the least expensive way to see some improvements is to fit a set of taller tires to effectively raise the gearing. Try not to go wider than what you have now, though, because that means more friction.
