View Full Version : 6.5 599 vs. 6.2 CUCV '82 red block...?

I have a '92 599 block running well with no rebuild at 225k mi. on original DB2 4911 & nozzels (must be the Mobil 1...?). I am building another 6.5 to rotate in, and want to choose the best block to rebuild. My question is three-fold:
1) Which is better- another 92-93 599 block or an '82 red or CUCV high nickel 6.2 bored out to 6.5?
2)Are all CUCV 6.2's high nickel alloy or only those cast in '82-83?
3) Are all 6.2 red blocks cast from high nickel alloy? Can these take a 6.5 bore reliably?

My application will be another mechanical 4911, 18:1 compression, Turbo Boost Controller, high pop nozzles, GM8 or Pennisular Turbo, intercooled or misted, balanced crank, with Balance-Flo cooling mod, etc.

I don't beleive that just any 6.2 block can be bored out to 6.5 specs because it will thin the cylinder walls to much. I don't think anyone truly knows what years are high nickel and what are not. Your best bet is to try and find a 599 block and build it up as you like. That is my opinion though.
