View Full Version : Heater return
Can I run my heater return to the water pump port on the below photo? Or should I "T" into the one between the water pump and T-stat? This is on my Jeep with the 6.2.

IIRC, that's the "high bypass return port". It should work, but may bypass too much coolant w/o enough restriction. Meaning, it would bypass too much coolant when you need it going through the block, stat and radiator. The port is high suction. The best result should be with a valve of some sort, so you can adjust the restriction as needed. You should have no more flow through it than is necessary for efficient heater function. The return is normally to the cold side tank on the radiator, which is low suction.

The hottest coolant will be at the crossover tho.
That is indeed a suction port.

The heater inlet will be from the stock 6.2 crosssover. Just needed a way to make it flow.

You can have a tube brazed on the hot tank of the radiator, thats where the factory location is. It may work ok on the suction port of the pump too.
At least you'll know ;)

Plastic tanks on the rad. If I use the port, I'll be sure and let ya all know if it works. I could also T into the upper radiator hose.

It should be on the cold side of the radiator, or lower hose (passenger side or right side in an OEM). If you put it on the hot side, it won't allow for much flow when it gets cold (heater won't heat).
