The 6.5 in my 97 K1500 used to get 22 mpg on the highway. I now struggle to get 16 under ideal conditions. It has 8000 miles with used low mileage pistons, new rings, dsg gear drive and phazer kit. 218000 miles on the chassis with OE injectors and 60000 miles on the IP. Stock drive train with 285/75r16 wrangler MT/R's.

Does anybody know any tricks to get better mileage? I am thinking I need to replace the injectors. Thanks for any tips.

Were you getting 22 with the 285 MTR's before? If so, amazing! If the mileage drop was after the tires, that will be a pretty good chunk of your loss.

By OE injectors, do you mean with 218K on them? If so, then that's another real mileage killer. Replacement is definately in order.

Other than that, check your fuel and air supply and timing. The new rings may still need some time to seat, as well.

I would say if the injectors have that many miles on them they need replaced. Also maybe your timing is off.

If your tires were recently changed be sure and go out and run a marked mile on the highway and see what your Odometer says.
Bet your odo id off about 1-2 tenths.

On a full tank of fuel that can be a fair amount of miles that you are not factoring in.

Check it and be sure you are figuring all your actual miles.
1 tenth off on the odo can make a big difference when it comes time to figure the MPG.

Also as was mentioned if the squirts are the originals they are most certainly used up. This will make a buttload of diifference in the MPG
