On my 95 Chev, p/u I have the motor with the EGR valve. Can I just replace the Eprom and leave the valve and everything else in place? Will it set a check engine light? Any help on this is appreciated. This does have the 6.5 TD, not a gas motor.

Just pull the vacuum line off the EGR valve and plug the vac line. Valve will stay closed and the computer won't know the difference.

Thats it? I won't get any codes or have any problems by just plugging the vacuum line? Man that almost seems too easy. I will give it a try. Thank you.

I just did mine this week end. I cut a piece of stainless steel with the same shape of the EGR itself.
I drill hole inside to allow the bolts to go through and install this shim as a sandwich between EGR valve and intake, adding a few high temp sealing past, tighten the all thing, leave the EGR connected so as to fool the ECM and make it believe everything's ok, and voila! :D

Perfect run with no code :D
