I just bought a 2006 GMC out in Illinois and got home last night while averaging 18.5 mpg (figured by hand) on the 950 mile trip. My question is, will it set an engine code if I remove the converter? It is the LLY motor? Thanks for the help!

This is an oxidation catalyst only - no O2 sensor on diesels so unless there is a temperature sensor downstream from the converter I don't see any codes coming.

If removed it will lower backpressure and may interfere with EGR calibration however - that may set a code on its own and/or impact engine performance. I am not familiar with the EGR system on the 06 engines.

My brother has an 05 with 4" exhaust on it without the converter, but he has a straight through muffler on it. I was just wanting to make sure the 06's were the same before I take it out.
Thanks,
