Twice now I've had the "service 4wd" show up on the dic. Both times after driving for at least 40 minutes in cool weather. The second time I used my predator to read the codes and the only one I found was a p1172 which I don't think is related. Both times the message disappeared after a restart. I had the right front hub replaced in july at 44,000 miles and is now at 47,000. I looked through the other threads and found some info but nothing to help so far. I have another 2000 miles (with few services most of the way) until we get home.

Anything I should check, watch for or do should it continue?

There was a common problem with the 03's caused by a faulty motor encoder in the transfer case ... had it happen on my 03 ...

At first I would get an occasional service 4WD drive message in the DIC that would clear. But after a while the 4WD buttons started acting strange indicating it was in 4WD when it wasn't.

see this thread .. also do search on "service 4wd" or "encoder"

Since it sounds like your on the road, you could pull the 4WD fuse to make sure the transfer case doesn't get stuck in 4WD ...

Another common problem is the 4WD switch assy in the dash ...

Bill, is that the 4wd fuse in the fuse block on the left end of the dash?
