California smog police passed edict on their intentions for the next round of polution controls. By 2014 they want all diesel vehicle on the road to be as efficent as 2007 vehicles. Mandatory retrofitting of all engines prior to 2007 would be required to meet this edict. Legislation to make this happen is yet to be seen. As unlawfull and illegal as this seems, they recently passed similar legislation for off road diesel engines, so a presedent has been set. Effect on small trucks, small fleets or historical vehicles is yet to be known. Welcome to California!

Wow.. And who pays for all of this? So to keep a MY2007 Classic, I would have to spend several grand upgrading it? In 2014 the truck is only 7 years old, and in my case I wouldn't even have a 100k on it. (I have a NBS with the DPF - and I don't live in the Democratic People's Republic of California)
