Has anyone changed the lefthand Exhaust manifold on their Duramax for an aftermarket one without the clearence for steering column shaft? Am being told that the factory manifold flows 20% less with this indentation than the other side, and that it is not necesary.

You will not feel the difference, but loking at it tells a guy that it's a imbalance. Changing it should help balance the exhaust flow between cylinders.

Of those who have installed a pyrometer in both the right and left exhaust manifolds, all (that I've heard about) have reported a higher EGT reading in the driver's side manifold - including myself. But.... I have not heard of any of these dual installations using calibrated and matched pyrometers & gauges.
