Missing glow plug tips

After suffering through a hard starting winter last year, and with some helpful suggestions from TDP, I thought I should investigate my glow plugs before the cold weather showed up. I found several that did not meet specs for resistance. When I got to work on the engine I had no difficulty at all removing any of the plugs, but three of them were missing their tips. The plugs I removed were AC 9's. I have no idea how long this situation has existed- maybe over two years. I have put about twenty thousand miles on this truck since I bought it. It has always run well, with no unusual noises, and good fuel economy. Is there some chance that the missing glow tips are lodged in the pre cups, and can be removed through the injector ports, or is this just wishful thinking on my part?

If they broke off while you were removing them, then quite possibly. Otherwise, they're long gone.....
