Greetings

I am new at this forum so i would like to say hello to everyone who will read
my post.

I am in contact with a person who selling a 1989 4x4 2500 Suburban 6.2L NO TURBO. The truck has 189000.
The owner seems very nice and honest. However i would like to pick someone's brain about what i should be aware of.
Also, is the 6.2L a relaible engine ? i am not looking for speed but rather
clean, strong and relaibility.
Are there any tips and tricks to know about the 6.2L engine so i can ask "intelligent" questions about it.

Thank you all for your reply and have a great week-end.

Cheers

Eric

Yes these engines are very reliable, lasting for many years and 100's of thousands of miles. Be sure to try starting up the engine from cold. Check to see if the glow plug light works. Some times sellers will plug in the block heater to get the truck warmed up before you arrive. See how much and what color smoke if any is coming from the exhaust pipe. When the engine is warmed up there should only be a small amount of black smoke maybe. Large amounts of black smoke can mean injector problems, and blue smoke can be worn engine parts. T est drive the truck and report your findings here.

also with the engine running pull the oil filler cap off and check for smoke, a light haze is normal. any significant smoke would indicate excess blow-by (caused by worn piston rings)
