When I added my tranny temp gauge sender, I simply felt the lines after the truck was up on the hoist. It was obvious which one was the hot side and which one was the return.

Sorry that truck is gone or I'd go out to the driveway and look for ya!

It goes to Radiator first, can trace it back,
Will crawl under tonight and check it..

I just went through this on a 700R4. The bottom cooling line on the radiator is the output or the "hot side"

Thanks rjwest and ZZ. This has always been my thought on how it was run.
Mark,good ideal. Makes sence.
I only got mix up in my thought about this when I read a statement from DR. Lee on the 6.2 forum that he quoted from a manuel that the lower port on the RAD. was the inlet.
I like Marks ideal smile.gif
ZZ I have been watching you at the 6.2 forum on some what the same topic. This is where I read what Dr. Lee stated.
Also I see where you have change your mine about the lower port being the outlet. Back to DR.Lee lower port of RAD is the inlet.
Maybe I'll swing over to the 6.2 and ask some question.
I'm still not sure :confused
Can the 4l80E be different?

OK, stupid question, but, did Dr. Lee mean that the lower port on the radiator was the inlet "into the radiator"? Which would mean everyone is correct ;)

I did not look at the 6.2 forum posts - I'm just going off what you guys have said here.

The lines on the radiator are reversed between the 4L80 and the 700R4

John c: That is how mine is plumbed,
HOT oil into top of radiator, out bottom to
air cooler.... temp sensor at "in" line to
raditor

 OK That is all I needed to know. That there is a different flow path between the two(700-4l80E)
Now I know my filter is in the right area.

It would be interesting to see what the trans oil temp is after it has gone through the cooler. Any one such a set up? any ideals on how much cooling is taken place?
