Whats the best glowplug these days?

Hello All,
I am recently having a difficult time starting in the cold. Plenty of cranking speed, good batteries, starter, etc. Glowplugs are 110K old so they are due and likely the problem. Whats the popular glowplug now? This is a stock compression, mildly leaned on '93 6.5TD with 228K on the clock. Thanks, RT

I have 60G's in my truck, they work well, and have for ~125,000....

I have installed the Kennedy Quick Heats in others, and feel they work a *little* better...

They seem to heat up quicker and have the same basic durable qualities of the 60G's..

You won't go wrong with either.

I have the Kennedy quick heats and so far have never had to run more than 1 glow cycle. Before I got them, I was considering doing a glow plug override so I could have manual control of glow times.

I used the Kennedy Quick Heats for over a year and they worked well. I damaged one when I removed it during my engine project, so I am now using a set of Peninsular glow plugs that I won as a door prize at the 2004 Rendezvous. They are working well also.

I have the QuickHeats also. They have worked GREAT so far(100,000M). I had the 60Gs before them and they worked OK, probably not as hot as the QHs. I know that when I pulled the 60s out, I did have a couple that were swelled, not bad, but still swelled. I don't theink I have ever run two glow cycles to get started.

I have 60G's still going strong at 125,000 miles. Don't forget to check the relay, I installed the 60g glow plugs and still had trouble until I found the relay was bad too (original plugs were 9Gs.

I have JK quick heats about 50K on them since installed work great, I pulled one recently to test against Delhpi the JK is nearly new in visual examination, the Delphi glowed to red in 2.5 sec, JK took about 4 sec, advantage Delphi; but unknown to me is Delphi life; advantage there goes to JK, as I know from my experience they last at least to 50K

I'll also note that it's not just the first to show a rosy glow, it also has to do with how much area glows and how well it holds the heat.

Since installing the set purchased from John Kennedy I have not used my Glow plug over ride!

Glow was similar to yours John full length of the plug not just at the tip, I have considered a extended glow button but can say so far I haven't needed it with your plugs. If it's really cold (almost never here) and 1st glow cycle doesn't get it done then second cycle does.

I bought some quick heat European plugs through eBay. They work better than the AC 60's I had in it. I'm on the 3rd winter with them. Always starts on the 1st glow.

I ended up just getting a set of 60G's at the local Napa. Reason is I went to check on the problem and found one plug terminal corroded completely off! Then I started pulling plugs. 7 were dead. They were Lucas CAV's that I got from DIS when I lived in Texas and didn't know better. With fresh 60G's it lights right off. I still don't know how it was starting with only 1 working plug. I was plugging it in at night but during the day was no trouble either. The Napa store was too convenient. Oh yeah, I forgot what fun those last 3 are under the turbo and behind the downpipe. The last three are best done with the wheel off and inside the wheel well.

Actually I left the wheel on. It was the downpipe that was blocking the second to last almost completely. Closest to the firewall I was able to do from the top. Pulled the turbo to make things easier. I have swapped turbos a few times so I can have it out in less than 1/2hr. RT
