I installed an AFE ProGuard7 filter onto 4" intake pipe and then a transition to 3" pipe. It cost me about $150 for filter and pipe. A bit more than the SSdiesel intake system, but I am confident in the quality of the filter and it is massive. It is the replacement filter for their duramax and powerstroke stage 2 cold air systems. The filter cost me $90 (79$ + shipping) ProGuard 7 Direct (http://www.proguard7direct.com/rpStoreFront/Scripts/MSFilter1.asp). The pipe and reducer/connectors I got on ebay. The 3" section was left over from my intercooler installation. I drilled a hole in the pipe for the CDR hose. As hot weather approaches I will probably make an air box for it.

I am getting a quicker response off the throttle, although I will probably not see the full benefit until I open up my exhaust and add boost. I have not decided what I think of the turbo whistle I can now readily hear. It sounds kind of like there is a tiny dentist drilling under my hood smile.gif

Cool.. smile.gif

A box might be of some value during the summer. The general rule of thumb is that for every 10 degrees you can cool the intake air, you gain one hp, or add 10 degrees and lose one hp. The underhood air temp can be brutal during the summer...
