I'm in the process of rebuilding my 6.5. My old block was junk, it had main web cracks. So I bought a block from a machine shop and had them do all the work to it. When i got it home i was checking it over and noticed that where the pan and block meet there was a small hairline crack that extended down the outside of the block about an inch. It looks like the rod of the adjacent cylinder hit the block. Is this a big deal or should I not worry about it. Thanks fatty

Howdy
IMHO... If I paid for a good block, it better not have ANY cracks in it that I can sse with naked eye. Read some of the posts above in the Cracked block poll.
Good luck....

this good comment, as cracking usually starts as invisible imperfections/dislocations. Even when it looks OK , incipient cracks may lurk unseen.

I tried attaching some pics so hopefully it works. The crack is only about the thickness of a hair so I outlined it with pencil. Its visible on the bottom of the block were the pan meets the block and about an inch up the outside of the block. Theres also a small chunk missing out of the cylinder. The machine shop sleived this cylinder. Whats everones opinion on this, is it a big deal or should I run it. Thanks fatty http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/fattymak/my_photos

Oh that? It won't be a problem, until it gets to the nearby water jacket.

Check please!

Hi
Take it back now, befor you give them any reason to claim that the damage was done by you,or any other person or part.
Don't invest your time and money into a questionable block. If it does crack more you will be looking for more money to rebuild the engin again.
My opinion.
Good luck.
