Just doing the finishing touches to a total rewiring job on my 1985 k1500 toy.
underdash Wiring harness and steering column from a 1986 burb. Now the dumb question--do the headlites when switched from low beam to high beam only activate the upper lites (hi-beam only) or did i goof and miss a wire somewhere in the confusion. Not too worried for relays are going in to control bosh replacement in all four buckets. Any ideas as to where to look, with my luck i more that likely forgot to get a connector plugged in or forgot one or there is a slight difference between a 85 column and a 86 one.The reason for the rewiring job was to correct the past owner's concept of fixing anything electrical--run a wire and shove in a toggle switch anywhere it would fit and just chop off the wires to what ever did not work:rolleyes: glow plugs; fast idle; power windows; door lock; charging; air conditions;& wiper just to name a few butcher jobs

IIRC all four are supposed to be illuminated on high beam. One way to figure this out is to look at the connectors at the back of the lights |_| wires to all three indicate high and low beam connections and wires to just two indicate either high or low beam only (most commonly high beam only). If you are putting in relays you just need power from one low and one high beam source. However, I would caution against running all 4 lights on low beam as the local constabulary might not be so keen on that.

the headlites worked correctly before i rewired everything. Low beam works fine. The only problem is that when switched to hi-beam the hi-beam portion of the low beam dose not work. I goofed some where and forgot to hook up a wire and now i cannot find which one that is. And the worst of it now i guess i will have to open up the harness and cut all junction apart to see which one is not making connection--Oh well wasn't planning on driving the truck just yet. Tkn for the response bryan

FWIW, my 95 K2500, when the Hi-beams are turned on the low-beams remain on resulting in all 4 lights being on.

All 4 are supposed to be on in that year of truck.
HMMMM just goona have to dig though it :( and see where the mistake is.
Or you can use a relay out front to operate the Hi beam section and save ripping things all apart
