i saw that someone had a kit on craigslist that said that you take off the rear wheels put something on the hubs and put dually wheels on. sounds kinda shadey to me. but are these kits good? i have also thought about going to my friends junk yard and getting a dually axel and turning my truck to a dually. what do you guys think, and if this is a good idea, where can i find some of the dually guarter panel extenders

One problem with converting to a duly, your adding weight but no capacity. You are still bound by the factory GVW.

i would also add that i would change out the rear springs by possibly using the 1 ton springs i have from my cousin.

Springs still wont make the frame stronger or change the factory weight sticker on the door. These trucks are rated by the factory and that's what DOT will go by. If its just for looks your OK, but if your going to be towing /hauling heavy you'll be in trouble.

The distance between the spring mounting pads are different between a 1 ton vs 3/4 ton.

The heavy duty 2500 is rated at 8600 GVW
The DaHooooley 1 tons are generally 10000 GVW.

Some of the kits I have seen (used on dually burbs and such) are fine and do a great job. Some are very cheezy.

There are also the kits now to convert the 1 ton 8 lug trucks to use 10 hole class 8 truck wheels 22.5" and or the class 7 19.5 inch wheels.

Loads of toys to look at
