and that was before wind chill.. effin cold!:eek: It started once and ran for about 45 seconds then died so I popped the hood and gave the primer about a half dozen pumps. Climbed in and cranked her over for about 5 to 7 seconds and she lit right off! Is that a long time to crank when the temp is this cold outside? this is my first diesel but I'm learning fast. thanks in advance

It may start, but then gel up after running awhile.

Make sure your winter front is installed, and top off with #1 diesel, if possible. If you gel, get the red bottle of Diesel 911 in it, per directions on the label. If no winter front, get something blocking the income blast. My driver did the cardboard thing today on our '06 which arrived used with no winter front, after limping and getting back with a red bottle full. He had already topped off with #2 last night.

I remember reading that when GM was first testing the duramax they said it would start at -40 degrees F using the right fuel even without block heater plugged in. I was impressed.
