I can't seem to find the nice long thread on issues with DTC 17. I know it's my optical encoder, and I know it is caused by a recent fuel "additive" experiment (I won't go into details yet).

My basic question is it possible and would it be beneficial to somehow bypass the encoder? I also question if an encoder gets fouled will it self clean when clean fuel with proper additives is used, or do I need to remove and clean, or remove and replace?

Help me out before thge EPA catches me starting my truck up. It runs great, but starts nasty:o:o

Just undlug the optic filter and re attached the connecters direct. I did on mine and WAS running alright. May have to order another if you get the 'fishbite' while driving. mine never had a start issue relating to it, but don't know if help you.
