My Dad and I have a hobby, repowering trucks with diesel engines from farm equipment, mostly small tractors and older combines. Our best luck is with 318 Perkins from older Massey combines. The biggest obstacle is finding/making a bell housing to go on the engines to accept a standard transmission. I realize this is nothing new. However, on some 'bines, we take off a huge hydrostatic drive system. Instead of the bell housing issue, we were thinking of making the truck hydrostatic. Has anybody done this? What kind of power/speed motor would we need for the differential, and where would you find that info? Most motor catalogues only have flow capacity in their specs. Any help would be appreciated.

I've seen some hydrostatic drives on off-road only vehicles, but you're not going to get something that you are pleased with if you are thinking about highway driving with such a setup.

I have nothing to contribute, however would you post a few pictures of some of your converted trucks?

I'm currently building a 4-71 Detroit for my one ton Chevy.
