My father, my brother, and myself went to Ellsworth, Kansas to pick up the engine which will find its way into the 96 suburban.

We're going for an honest and streetable 500-550 lb-ft (what most 300 hp builds accomplish) on #2 only. Like most of the crowd here, towing in stock trim has been less than pleasurable. It's time for a rebuild, and we're going to do it right.

The basic package - 1993 6.5L NA #599 block.

Please keep us updated. I'm in the middle of pulling mine for a rebuild.
Looks like the 'burb had a buttfull of 6.5!! :cool:

one suggestion on your images man, photoshop! Those suckers are huge! 400Kb for an image that should be no more than 75Kb optimized. Just a suggestion..

Good luck with the 6.5er, just pull the pan first and check the webs to make sure you have something worth messing with. Been there done that.

I don't think I'd put it in the back. It's gonna be way too loud once you get it running. I'd stick with the original GM loaction and put 'er under the hood tongue.gif Yuk Yuk.

Update:

We've pulled the heads, pan, and accessories. Inspection has revealed some serious valvetrain issues ranging from severely worn pushrods to a lifter that self destructed. That's not too bad since that is stuff that is easy to replace, and that has been part of the plan all along.

The bottom end revealed the real surprise. While the block looks like it will be crack free, this engine has undergone a previous rebuild. The crank has apparently been turned .010 and .010 :mad: . #2 piston has significant pitting from something flying around in the pan.

Here's a question:
We obviously cannot use this crankshaft. Who has a line on new/reconditioned cranks? DP advertisers? Darned if the weekend isn't here already, and I can't get anybody on the phone. Any ideas?

We'll know more once the rotating assembly is taken apart and cataloged.

Oh, and sorry about the picture size; I'm away from my primary computer which has all the good programs.
